David A. Johnson, MD, FACP, FACG, FASGE

David A. Johnson, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Chief of Gastroenterology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has published extensively in the internal medicine/gastroenterology literature, contributing more than 350 articles, chapters, and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. A Past President of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), Dr Johnson remains on the executive committee for the ACG Board of Trustees as well as the ACG Research Institute, and he has been extensively involved in committees of the national GI societies.


Dr Johnson's publication activities include serving as the past co-editor of Reviews in Gastroenterological Disorders and as the current GI section editor for Medscape Gastroenterology and Journal Watch Gastroenterology (New England Journal of Medicine). He is on numerous editorial boards and is a reviewer for 18 medical journals including all of the GI journals, as well as a number of prestigious internal medicine journals, such as: Annals of Internal Medicine, Archives of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Medicine, and Lancet. Recently, Dr Johnson coauthored the ACC/ACG/AHA consensus document on NSAID and antiplatelet issues for cardiology. Additionally, he co-edited the American College of Physicians book Dyspepsia and edited the 2005 Gastroenterology Clinics of North America issue on obesity-related issues for the gastroenterologist.


A member/reviewer of the National Institutes of Health study section for esophageal/gastric diseases, Dr Johnsons's primary research interests are esophageal and colon cancer screening, and he has been active on multiple national policy programs. He was the physician who worked with Senator Emily Couric to create the historic legislation to mandate colonoscopy as the preferred standard for colon cancer screening. This initiative in Virginia set the model that other states have since followed. He has served as a primary advisor to Medicare for GI issues on endoscopy (CMS advisory committee 1995-1998) and was co-chair of the national gastroenterology Medicare advisors from 1991 to 2000. Dr Johnson was also a coauthor of the recently released 2008 ACS/multisociety task force guidelines for colon cancer screening, as well as the ACG colon cancer screening guidelines in 2000 and the forthcoming 2009 update.


Theresa Cerulli, MD

Theresa Cerulli, MD, is a graduate of Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and completed the Harvard Longwood residency program in adult psychiatry and Harvard fellowships in medical psychiatry and neuropsychiatry. Dr Cerulli is board certified in psychiatry and is on staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Hallmark Health's Lawrence Memorial Hospital.


She received the 1997 Harvard Residency Teaching Award and has published several journal articles in the Harvard Review of Psychiatry. Dr Cerulli has continued in her role as a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty as a Clinical Instructor, lecturing on a range of neuropsychiatric topics including attention deficit disorder, depression, and electroconvulsive therapy. She is a supervisor for the Harvard Longwood residency training program.


Dr Cerulli is the co-founder and prior Chief Medical Officer of ADD Health and Wellness Centers, specializing in the holistic treatment of children and adults with ADD/ADHD and co-existing behavioral health conditions. Her vision is to combine traditional medicine with healthy living to promote cognitive and emotional well-being. She previously served as Medical Director for the Hallowell Center and co-founder of Hallowell ADDvance. Dr Cerulli has served nationally as an expert witness for ADHD legal cases, and works as a consultant and speaker for the CNS divisions of Shire, Eli Lilly, and Novartis Pharmaceuticals. She was a subinvestigator with East Coast Clinical Research for 2 phase 4 psychotropic medication trials.


Dr Cerulli has appeared on numerous television programs: channel 7, Urban Update for a debate on the use of psychotropic medications in children, a channel 5 ABC Evening News segment on learning disabilities, and WMUR Evening News on integrating mental health care. Dr Cerulli was also interviewed on TV channel 56's Health Watch regarding the use of quantitative EEG. Her other media appearances include interviews with local radio stations—WBCN, WESO, Radio Disney, and the Frankie Boyer Show—as well as several newspaper and magazine articles. She recently accepted a Medical Advisory Board position with Kiwi magazine and is listed in the Guide to America's Top Psychiatrists, 2008 Edition.

Norman B. Gaylis, MD, FACP, FACR

Norman B. Gaylis, MD, is recognized as one of this country's leaders in the field of arthritis and related diseases, and is a practicing rheumatologist based in Miami, Florida. Dr Gaylis has presented numerous scientific papers at medical meetings around the world and is the author of a number of research articles on rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.

 

Actively involved in ongoing clinical research trials studying a variety of arthritis drugs and other treatments, Dr Gaylis was/is a principal investigator in the research of more than 100 new pharmaceutical products for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, systemic lupus, lupus nephritis, gout, and Sjögren's syndrome.

 

The recipient of many awards and honors, Dr Gaylis is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology, for which he served on the Council of Rheumatology Care. Dr Gaylis contributed to and edited Lupus Lifeline, a publication of the Dade-Broward Lupus Foundation. He hosted HEALTHTALK, a weekly radio program on Florida radio for many years, and he writes a monthly column for the local community newspaper.

 

Dr Gaylis is a medical graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in rheumatology in Miami. He is a regularly featured speaker nationally and internationally on multiple topics in rheumatology including the use of EMRI technology in rheumatoid arthritis, for which he is internationally known.


Daniel Kantor, MD, BSE

Daniel Kantor, MD, is the Medical Director of Neurologique, an organization dedicated to patient care, education, and research. He was formerly an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Director of the Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Center at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. He has been elected to serve as the next President-Elect of the Florida Society of Neurology and is working on the newly formed Florida NeuroAlliance. He sits on the board of the Duval County Medical Society (DCMS) and is an alternate delegate for the DCMS to the Florida Medical Association.

 

Dr Kantor received a BA in literary theory and a BSE in computer science and engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his MD from the Columbia University Medical Center – Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Medical School Collaboration for International Health and Medicine. He interned at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Cooper University Hospital and trained in neurology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

Dr Kantor has received awards recognizing his 4-part focus on academics, teaching, research, and administrative excellence from the University of Pennsylvania, University of Windsor, Ben-Gurion University, the Israeli National Center for Medical Education, Neurology-Neurophysiology Associates of Philadelphia and Thomas Jefferson University. In addition, he is a former Assistant Editor of the Journal of Molecular Recognition (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.).

 

His interests include symptomatic treatment of multiple sclerosis, headache in multiple sclerosis, patient-centered neurologic care, medical ethics, and medical education. He is a principal investigator in several multiple sclerosis studies, including being a member of the University of California, San Francisco, international collaboration studying the genetics of multiple sclerosis.


Scott A. MacDiarmid, MD

Scott A. MacDiarmid, MD, received his medical degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where he also completed a residency in urology. He completed fellowships in reconstructive urology and urodynamics at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina; the University of Otago in Christchurch, New Zealand; and the University of Sheffield in England. He has been certified as a diplomat of the American Board of Urology and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

 

Currently, Dr MacDiarmid is Director of the Alliance Urology Specialists Bladder Control and Pelvic Pain Center and serves on the clinical faculty in the Department of Urology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

 

Dr MacDiarmid's clinical, educational, and academic expertise is in male and female voiding dysfunction, neurogenic bladder, and complex lower urinary tract and pelvic floor reconstruction, and he has lectured extensively on these topics. He has authored or coauthored numerous book chapters and journal articles, and is recognized nationwide as a leader in his field.
